I have been an innovator in women’s healthcare since beginning my career in 1993. I was an early adopter of minimally invasive surgery, performing thousands of procedures, including nearly 1,000 robotic hysterectomies, allowing women to go home the same day. I also advocated for alternatives to narcotics, employed the first nurse midwife in my community, developed the first fully staffed obstetrical hospitalist program locally, and helped other hospitals establish their own OB hospitalist programs. In 2023, while dining at Epiphany Farms Restaurant in Bloomington, Illinois, I reflected on the state of medicine: the provider shortage, the disaster of COVID, and the growing burden of chronic illness. I had an epiphany. That vision became a patient-centered model providing comprehensive healthcare that bridges the gap between family/internal medicine and gynecology, staffed by nurse practitioners with physician oversight. As this model has matured, it has expanded into a functional medicine approach focused on longevity, lifestyle, nutrition, and daily activity. I am also deeply family-centered. I am blessed with five children and eleven grandchildren, and our family lives what we teach, prioritizing prayer, community, healthy sleep, intermittent fasting, organic foods, reduced sugar, and daily activity like biking, lifting weights, walking, gardening, traveling, and time together.
